Take time to enjoy the Memorial Day parade

It has been a long, cool and wet spring, but there's optimism in the air with the arrival of Memorial Day weekend. Let blue skies and warm sunshine prevail!

The annual Memorial Day parade, which steps off down Narragansett Avenue at 10 a.m. this Monday, is one of Jamestown's great traditions. Memorial Day is a festive day with music provided by our community band, colorful balloons and floats and many antique cars, tractors and fire trucks.

However, we must remember that Memorial Day is the day that our nation as set aside to pay tribute to those men and women who have given their lives in the service of this country. Take a few minutes of your time on Monday to attend the Memorial Day observance at the Veterans Memorial Square at East Ferry. The brief service is right after the parade.

Have fun this weekend. But remember that Memorial Day is a time to honor our nation's real heroes.
