Thanks to all for a great concert
Ten days ago, about 400 persons from Jamestown and nearby enjoyed ballads, folk and traditional music, and sacred songs sung at the Jamestown Community Chorus' spring concert. The singers were in top concert form; a few people attended the concert twice!
As outgoing president, I write to express our appreciation to Pastor Kathryn Palen and the congregation of Central Baptist Church for rehearsal and performance use of the church. In addition to worship, the facility is a splendid space for music and social interaction.
Thanks, also, to so many professionals and merchants who assisted the JCC by purchasing advertising space in the fall concert program. Despite the recession, we had record support from the business community and funds raised helped sustain us during the year.
At the spring concert, the chorus introduced its new cookbook, "Bach, Beethoven and Bread," and nearly one-half of the first printing was purchased by attendees, who could sample the recipes by enjoying refreshments after the concerts. If you missed this opportunity, the cookbook will be available again at the Talent Showthis summer and the concerts in the fall.
The JCC elects its new officers after the spring concert and I am happy to announce that our president for 2009-2010 is Pat Perry, who was also president in 2007- 08. I am reminded of a comment attributed to U.S. President Benjamin Harrison, who said he was "bookended" by President Grover Cleveland, who served both before and after him. Pat Perry is not a set of bookends, but rather a talented leader who could command a university or a battleship! Our new officers are all women, with the exception of section leaders for tenors and basses. I expect energy, efficiency, and top flight multitasking from this group!
As you plan your summer, please note that the JCC Talent Show will be presented at the Recreation Center on Thursday, Aug. 20, with tryouts/rehearsals on the preceding Monday and Tuesday evenings. So get out your dance shoes, your musical instrument, and plan to give us a song and dance!
On behalf of our music director, B.J. Whitehouse; our accompanist Janet Grant; and all the members of the Jamestown Community Chorus, thank you for your support. Keep singing! Jim Traer President, 2008-09 Jamestown Community Chorus
