Lawn watering ban starting June 1

With the opening of the new water treatment facility on May 18, the only water restriction Jamestown residents will face starting Monday, June 1 is on lawn irrigation.

Residents hooked up to the town's water supply are prohibited from watering their lawns from Monday, June 1, until Monday, August 31, but they may wash their cars, boats and houses unless the reservoir falls to critical levels.

"If the reservoir (North Pond) stays above the 42-inch mark, cars, boats and house washing will be permitted," said Denise Jennings, water and sewer clerk. "And it probably won't fall below that."

The new treatment facility saves over 134,000 gallons of water per week, which has allowed the town to relax the water restrictions.
