The Potter League for Animals will hold a grand opening celebration on Saturday, June 20 and Sunday, June 21 for the new Animal Care and Education Center on 87 Oliphant Lane in Middletown.
The 19,500-square-foot facility has an adoption center with homelike animal housing, a behavior and training center, a humane education center and an animal wellness wing.
A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 20. Guest speakers include Helene van Beuren and William Wood Prince. Helene van Beuren is a member of the family of an original founder of the Potter League, Mary van Beuren. The ceremony will be followed by an open house. Activities include tours of the building, obedience demonstrations, displays on Potter League programs, and children’s activities. Special features on Saturday morning include a taping of a segment for the Rhode Show. At 11 a.m., there will be a book signing of “Lemon the Duck” by Laura Backman.
The Potter League’s new green building is awaiting certification as a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design project from the U.S. Green Building Council. It is anticipated that the building will qualify at the gold level.
