Seidler graduates from Fairfield University

Amanda Seidler graduated magna cum laude from the Charles F. Dolan school of business at Fairfield University in Fairfield, Conn., on May 17 with a double major in finance and marketing.

She was inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma honor society as a junior.

O’Grady and Lemke receive doctorates

• Heidi (Ford) O’Grady, daughter of Joseph and Regina Ford, received a doctorate of physical therapy on May 16, from the University of Rhode Island.

• Lindsey Lemke graduated from University of Rhode Island on May 17 with a doctorate in pharmacy. She recently passed her board certification and will be employed by CVS.

Island students make dean’s list

• Lindsay Rose Houlihan made the dean’s list a Keene State College in Keene, N.H.

• John Chase, Emily Miniutti and Meaghan Hitt were named to the dean’s list at Northeastern University in Boston for the spring 2009 semester.

Islander receives LOUIE award

Islander Shirley Bell of Shirley Bell Designs won a LOUIE Award in the Rising Star category for her Dragonfly Holiday card.

The Greeting Card Association gives the award for the best greeting card and stationary products of the past year.

Out of the thousands of cards and invitations published each year, 176 made it to the final round in the 21st Annual International Greeting Card Awards competition, better known as the “LOUIE.”

The winners were announced May 18 at the Capitale in New York City.

Local judge receives excellence award

The Honorable Francis J. Darigan Jr., of Jamestown, will be honored tonight – Thursday, June 18 – at the Rhode Island Bar Association Annual Dinner. He will receive the Chief Justice Joseph R. Weisberger Judicial Excellence Award.

The Chief Justice Joseph R. Weisberger Judicial Excellence Award, named in honor of its first recipient, Chief Justice (retired) Joseph R. Weisberger, is presented to a judge of the Rhode Island State Courts or Federal District Court bench for exemplifying and encouraging the highest level of competence, integrity, judicial temperament, ethical conduct and professionalism.
