Don’t miss the Fourth of July festivities scheduled to take place right here in Jamestown: Do a good deed. Volunteers are needed bright and early at 7 a.m. on Saturday, July 4, to help raise more than 100 American flags honoring local veterans at Veterans Square at East Ferry. “We need everybody to come and help,” said Bruce Livingston, who organizes the event. Volunteers are also needed at 3 p.m. to take the flags down. More ... The Conanicut Island Art Association will sponsor an exhibit of 12 mini quilts by Ursula Michael Parenteau in the Jamestown Philomenian library lobby during the month of July. The exhibit, called “A Year On MY Island,” was inspired by seasonal changes in the weather and natural surroundings. Each art quilt, which depicts a scene for every month, uses thread, fabrics and embellishments as the creative medium. The exhibit may be viewed during regular library hours. More ... Summer music in Jamestown begins at East Ferry Memorial Square on Sunday, July 5, at 6:30 p.m. The first performers of the season are Atwater-Donnelly, a Rhode Island-based folk music duo who met as volunteers at Stone Soup Coffee House in Providence in 1987 and have been singing together ever since. They have traveled widely, studying and performing an impressive variety of folk and ethnic styles. More ... The International Tennis Hall of Fame & Museum will host its third annual family weekend from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 4, and Sunday, July 5, as a kick-off event for the Campbell’s Hall of Fame Tennis Championships, scheduled for July 6 to 12. The two-day event will give attendees the opportunity to get close to pro tennis action as players from around the world battle it out on the Hall of Fame’s historic grass courts in the qualifying tournament of the Campbell’s Hall of Fame Tennis Championships. More ... The 32nd annual Fools’ Rules Regatta, sponsored by the Jamestown Yacht Club, will be held Saturday, Aug. 15, on the Town Beach at East Ferry. Participants will begin construction of the “vessels” with a 9 a.m. cannon start. Participants are given two hours to construct a sailing craft of non-marine items. The craft may be pre-constructed, but must be disassembled and built again on the beach. Races begin at 11 a.m. with the Class 1 race. More ... The Jamestown Community Chorus will present its 20th annual talent show on Thursday, Aug. 20, at 7:30 p.m. at the Jamestown Recreation Center. Auditions will take place on Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 17 and 18, at 7 p.m., at the Recreation Center. An accompanist will be available. Past shows have featured singers, dancers, instrumentalists, storytellers and more. More ... The Conanicut and Jamestown Yacht Clubs will co-host the Club 420 Association National Championships on July 27, 28 and 29 in West Passage. Fort Getty is featured as the venue for this event, with boats arriving on Sunday, July 26, and departing Wednesday, July 29. Authentic 19th century coaches drawn by matched and highly-trained teams of horses will return to Newport from Aug. 20 to 23 for a Weekend of Coaching, hosted by the Preservation Society of Newport County. Enjoy free viewing of the colorful and historic coaches every day as they drive the streets of Newport and the grounds of the Newport Mansions, celebrating and preserving a century-old sporting tradition.
