Atwater-Donnelly to kick off music series

Summer music in Jamestown begins at East Ferry Memorial Square on Sunday, July 5, at 6:30 p.m. The first performers of the season are Atwater-Donnelly, a Rhode Island-based folk music duo who met as volunteers at Stone Soup Coffee House in Providence in 1987 and have been singing together ever since. They have traveled widely, studying and performing an impressive variety of folk and ethnic styles.

Aubrey Atwater and Elwood Donnelly present a joyous concert of traditional Celtic ballads, dance tunes, a cappella pieces, sea chanties and American songs, as well as original works. They blend unusual harmonies, and accompany themselves on guitar, mountain dulcimer, tin whistle, harmonica, banjo, spoons, bones, Australian monkey pods, rainstick and other surprises. This concert will appeal to all ages, and audience participation is encouraged.

Admission is free, so bring the whole family to enjoy a memorable evening at East Ferry Memorial Square. The event is sponsored by Bette McGuirl, the Jamestown Parks and Recreation Department and the Teen Center. In case of rain, the concert will be held at the Jamestown Recreation Center.
