Island events mark Independence Day

Don’t miss the Fourth of July festivities scheduled to take place right here in Jamestown:

Do a good deed. Volunteers are needed bright and early at 7 a.m. on Saturday, July 4, to help raise more than 100 American flags honoring local veterans at Veterans Square at East Ferry. “We need everybody to come and help,” said Bruce Livingston, who organizes the event. Volunteers are also needed at 3 p.m. to take the flags down.

Catch a parade. On Saturday, July 4, the 20th annual Fourth of July North End Parade starts at East Shore Road at 10 a.m.

Ooh and aah. The Rocket ‘hogs are back to light up the skies over Jamestown on Sunday, July 5, at Mackerel Cove. The Jamestown Community Band will start playing at 8 p.m. and the fireworks show begins at sundown.

Happy and safe Fourth to all!
