Volunteers sought for area events, organizations
Several area organizations are seeking help for upcoming events.
The Wickford Art Association is looking for volunteers to work two-hour shifts at its annual art festival on July 11 and 12. Volunteers will staff the information booth, sell T-shirts and raffle tickets, and assist artists.
The Big Apple Circus in Charlestown is looking for ushers. Duties include showing patrons to their assigned seats, and sweeping and picking up trash in the stands after the show. Applicants must volunteer to be part of a team that will work three or four shows. They also will be required to attend an orientation before the opening. The circus will be held from July 10 to 15.
Parking attendants are being sought by the Big Apple Circus. Applicants must be at least 16 years old and able to stand for two hours. They will be asked to attend a pre-circus orientation meeting. They will be allowed to attend the show they work if the circus is not sold out.
Drivers are urgently needed in the Jamestown area, Mondays through Fridays, to help elderly neighbors keep their medical appointments.
Senior centers around South County are looking for volunteers for several programs. They include Senior Health Insurance Program volunteers. Training will be provided.
Nutrition program volunteers are needed to help with set-up, serving and clean-up for noontime meals, and activities volunteers are needed to teach classes.
South County Museum in Narragansett needs people to prepare news releases for local press and membership. It is also seeking volunteers to research artifacts to be displayed, to create a museum tour booklet and to greet visitors at the admissions desk. Volunteers will never have to wear costumes.
The Washington County Fair is seeking volunteers to take orders for food and drink, make change and help with counter service at the fair. Volunteers must be able to make change and stand for an entire four-hour shift. Brief training periods precede each shift.
The fair this year will be held Aug. 12 to 16. Volunteers receive one free meal on the day of their shift and free admission to the fair on the day they work. Multiple shifts are allowed.
Serving Communities, Helping Others, Opportunities for All is a clearinghouse for volunteer opportunities.
