Garden club to meet at artist’s birthplace
The Quononoquott Garden Club will visit the Gilbert Stuart Birthplace and Museum on Monday, July 13. After the business meeting which begins at 11 a.m., club members will tour the artist’s birthplace and the established herb and flower gardens there.
Each member should bring a bag lunch, which may be enjoyed at the picnic tables on the property.
Gilbert Stuart painted over 1,000 portraits, including those of six American presidents. The image of George Washington on the onedollar bill for over 100 years is based on the portrait of Washington painted by Stuart.
