Fraudulent check charge

Timothy Ruzzo, 39, of Tisbury, Mass., was charged July 3 with one count of unlawful appropriation and three counts of fraudulent check writing over $1,000, police said.

According to police, Ruzzo was picked up by Martha’s Vineyard police on bench warrants for writing bad checks in Jamestown.

Ruzzo was held at the police station and transported to the Adult Correctional Institutions. A pre-trial hearing was scheduled for July 7 at Newport District Court, police said.

Drunk driving charges

• John McLaughlin, 44, of North Kingstown, was charged July 3 with first offense drunk driving, first offense marijuana possession and refusal to submit to a Breathalyzer test, police said.

According to police, officers located McLaughlin’s vehicle on Conanicus Avenue after receiving an erratic driving call.

McLaughlin was held at the police station and a re-arraignment hearing was scheduled for July 10 at Newport District Court, police said.

• Brian Petit, 53, of 412 Seaside Drive, was charged July 5 with first offense drunk driving and refusal to submit to a Breathalyzer test, police said.

According to police, Petit was observed driving erratically on North Main Road.

Petit was held at the police station and a re-arraignment was scheduled for July 17, police said.
