CIAA annual summer art show begins today
      The Conanicut Island Art Association will hold its annual Summer Art Show beginning today, July 23, through Sunday, July 26, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Jamestown Community Center.

Munslow to perform at library
      Storyteller and cartoonist Keith Munslow will perform “Think Outside the Box” for children ages 4 to 12 and their families on Tuesday, July 28, at 7 p.m. in the meeting hall at the Jamestown Philomenian Library. The program is part of this year’s state summer reading program for kids, “Be Creative @ Your Library.”

Polynesian dance this Monday
      The Jamestown Philomenian Library will offer a Polynesian dance program for teenagers and adults on Monday, July 27, from 4 to 5 p.m. in the library’s meeting hall. Napua O Polynesia will take dancers to the islands of Hawaii, Tahiti, New Zealand and the Marquesas in song and dance. Authentic implements, such as drums, gourds and bamboo sticks, will be used.

      Black and White, a three-piece blues rock band, will perform a cool set of rhythm and blues this Sunday, July 26, at 6:30 p.m. at East Ferry Memorial Square.

Library to hold ‘buck a bag’ sale
      Beginning today, July 23, through Saturday, July 25, the Jamestown library will wrap up its annual book sale with its “buck a bag” sale. Fill a regular-sized grocery bag with books, excluding any specially-priced books or sets, for just $1. Call 423-7280 for more information.

Free soccer clinic begins Wednesday
      British Challenger Soccer will hold a free soccer skills clinic for children ages 4 to 17 on Wednesday, July 29, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Lawn Avenue soccer fields. Participants can brush up on soccer skills, meet coaches and have a great time. Registration for soccer camp is not required to attend this session.

Chamber’s Ft. Getty dinner-dance to benefit island garden club
      Join the Jamestown Chamber of Commerce for its annual fund-raiser on Saturday, Aug. 15, at the Fort Getty Pavilion. This year’s event, called “Dig It,” will include dinner by Chopmist Charlie’s, dessert from Spinnaker’s Cafe, and beer and wine. Live music will be provided by Forty Steps. The event will benefit the Quononoquott Garden Club.

Grist Mill to host free tour this weekend
      Kenyon’s Grist Mill will hold a tour this Saturday and Sunday, July 25-26, featuring free kayaking on the Queen’s River. Donations during the event will benefit the Wood-Pawcatuck Watershed Association. Meet local artisans and farmers, alpacas from Ice Pond Farm, and take a free narrated tour of the mill. Sample free Johnny Cakes and watch the grinding process.

Dedication for Gulf War Seabee memorial
      On Friday, July 31, at 9 a.m., the public is invited to a dedication of the new Gulf War Seabee Memorial. Members of the Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 27 recently broke ground on the first non-military memorial to honor U.S. Navy Seabees killed in the Gulf Wars.
