Magic show tonight at library
      Stop by the Jamestown Philomenian Library tonight at 7 for a magic performance by the “Great Baldini.” Children and families will use their magical powers and chant the magic word, “creativity,” to make objects appear and disappear. Audience participation is encouraged in this free show designed for children ages 4 to 12.

Experience ‘mad science’ at the library
      ‘Mad Science’ will conduct Invention-ation, a program for children and their families, at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 4, in the Jamestown Philomenian Library meeting hall. This entertaining program shows kids that anyone can be an inventor. Participants will explore problem solving and brainstorming while learning the cool stories behind the invention of everyday objects.

Opening reception at Schock Gallery tonight
      The Schock Gallery will host an opening reception for its summer exhibit tonight — Thursday, July 30 — from 5 to 8 p.m. at 47 Conanicus Ave. The exhibit features oil and pastel paintings by Cynthia Blair, Barb Hutchison and David Schock, as well as fine art photography by Kate Petrie and Pat Tuff.

Skatefest to raise funds for Teen Center
      The Jamestown Teen Center will hold its third annual Skatefest at the Jamestown Skate Park at Lawn Avenue School this Saturday, Aug. 1, from 1 to 5 p.m. DJ Justin Dreadless will provide musical entertainment for the event. Professional BMX bikers and skaters from Impact Action Sports and Water Brothers will also run demonstrations throughout the day.

Jamestown Seaside Family Cruise in September
      The annual Jamestown Seaside Family Cruise, featuring classic, custom and antique cars, will be held Sunday, Sept. 6, from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Ft. Getty. Cars must be registered by 1 p.m. Cruisin’ Bruce Palmer will provide entertainment and refreshments will be available. Donation is $15 per vehicle and all proceeds will benefit local charities.
