Club 420 U.S. national championship winners announced

Photo by Jeff McDonough Three days of racing in the west passage of Narragansett Bay saw 152 crews battle it out between the shores of Ft. Getty and Saunderstown. After nine races, the winners were announced during an awards ceremony at the Ft. Getty sailing venue in Jamestown.

Nick Johnstone and Katia DaSilva, Conanicut Yacht Club/ FAST sailors from Jamestown, were first overall, followed by Markus Edegran and Teddy Mark of Larchmont YC, Conn., in second. Declan Whitmyer and Ian Storck of Noroton YC/LISOT, Conn., finished third and Kevin Martland and Will Webster of Sail Newport finished fourth. Deirdre Lambert and Tracy Doherty of LISOT, Conn., finished fifth overall.

In the women’s overall standings, Grace Lucas and Tierney Driscoll of BHYC in Bay Head, N.J., finished first. Deirdre Lambert and Tracy Doherty of LISOT finished second, and Sarah Williams and Jane Rew of Bay Head YC in New York finished in third place.

Andrew Mollerus and Charlie Peck of Larchmont YC /LISOT, Conn., finished in first place in the youth division. Declan Whitmyer and Ian Storck of Noroton YC/LISOT, Conn., finished in second place, followed by Deirdre Lambert and Tracy Doherty of LISOT, Conn., who finished third.

A special sportmanship award (a new set of North Sails) was awarded to two crews: Tommy Galster and Honore Johnson of Saunderstown YC in R.I. and also to Katja Sertl and Ailsa Petrie of Conanicut YC, R.I. and Rochester YC, N.Y., respectively.
