DUI charges

• Nicholas Smith, 20, of North Kingstown was charged July 28 with first offense driving under the influence and refusal to submit to a chemical test after he was spotted driving erratically and drove off the road into a ditch on North Road, according to police. Smith was held at the police station and a re-arraignment was scheduled for July 31 in Newport District Court, police said.

• Colin Coneys, 21, of Greenwich, Conn., was charged July 29 with driving under the influence on Route 138 eastbound, police said. A re-arraignment was scheduled for July 31 in Newport District Court, according to police.

Driving without a license

Francis Mullin, 43, of Providence was charged with driving without a license/driving with an expired license during a traffic stop for speeding and erratic operation on Route 138 westbound near Beacon Avenue, according to police. An arraignment was scheduled for Aug. 21 in Newport District Court, police said.
