R.I. Ballet Theatre to hold auditions
      Rhode Island’s ballet theatre is seeking talented dancers ages 9 to 18 for membership in the company. Auditions will be held on Monday, Aug. 24, at 6:30 p.m. at R.I. Ballet Arts Academy at 7728 Post Rd. in North Kingstown.

Town Council takes summer break
      The Town Council has cancelled its regular meeting scheduled for Monday, Aug. 17. Town Clerk Arline Petit said the meeting was cancelled because of a light agenda and conflicting late summer schedules of council members.

JSA fall soccer registration now online
      Registration for the Jamestown Soccer Association’s Fall 2009 recreation soccer league is now underway. All registrations are done online at www.jamestown-soccer.com. The website will direct users to a link for Youth Leagues USA, which includes the Jamestown soccer registration form.

Community Farm to hold Kids Fun Day
      All kids are invited to come and have a blast at the Jamestown Community Farm during its first annual Kids Fun Day on Saturday, Aug. 15, from 3 to 5 p.m. Activities will include a farmthemed scavenger hunt, seed planting, bean picking, chicken feeding and nature science activities, as well as arts, crafts and a hay ride. Snacks and lemonade will be served.

‘Dig It’ at Ft. Getty this Saturday
      It’s not too late to get your tickets for the Jamestown Chamber of Commerce’s “Dig It,” the annual Night at the Fort dinner-dance this Saturday, Aug. 15, at the Ft. Getty Pavilion. The event will include dinner from Chopmist Charlie’s, dessert from Spinnaker’s Cafe, and beer and wine. Live music will be provided by Forty Steps.

East Passage closed to boats for swim
      The East Passage of Narragansett Bay beneath the Newport Bridge will be temporarily closed to vessel traffic this Saturday, Aug. 15, between 7:30 and 11:30 a.m. for the Save the Bay swim. The U.S. Coast Guard will allow vessels to pass on a case-by-case basis during the event, and can be contacted on VHF channel 16 (Marine radio).

Community lobster roll dinner at CBC

      Auditions for the Jamestown Community Chorus’ 20th annual talent show will take place this Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 17 and 18, at 7 p.m. at the Recreation Center. Talent show to be held next weekend
      The Jamestown Community chorus will host its 20th annual talent show on Thursday, Aug. 20, at 7:30 p.m. at the Jamestown Recreation Center. Tickets are $7 general admission, and $5 for seniors and children. This year’s producer is Ginger Holland, with David MacLean and Dan McGregor serving as co-directors. Frank Darigan will be master of ceremonies.
