Mark Weed, the husband of state Senate President Teresa Paiva Weed (D-Jamestown & Newport) died Saturday, Aug. 22, following a battle with cancer, the Providence Journal reported this week.

Weed was a native of Newport. He was diagnosed with cancer shortly before his wife took office as Senate president in January, the ProJo said. The funeral was held Wednesday in Newport.
