Register now for children’s dance program
The Jamestown recreation department’s dance program for children will begin on Wednesday, Sept. 16, at the Jamestown golf course.
Instructor Mary Beth Murphy will offer beginning ballet from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. and modern dance from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Classes will run through Dec. 16.
In beginning ballet, designed for ages 5 to 7, students will learn key principles of posture, carriage and musicality while beginning to combine ballet vocabulary into sequences of dance. Practicing at the ballet barre and traveling across the floor, students will work on refining their technique and skill.
Modern dance, designed for ages 8 to 10, begins with a warm up of modern dance technique to develop strength, flexibility and balance, followed by combinations of choreographed movement phrases. Improvisation and choreography by the students will also be incorporated.
Each class is limited to 15 students. Tuition is $130.
Students may register at the recreation center. For more information, call Mary Beth Murphy at 829-8186 or Jill Goldstein at 423- 7260.
