Still time to join cast of JCT’s ‘Willy Wonka’

Though auditions are over, there are still a few good roles available in the Jamestown Community Theatre’s November production of “Willy Wonka.”

This show, slated for six performances over the weekends of Nov. 13 and Nov. 20, will include some of the production team from the very first JCT play many years ago. Over the years, each of them has been involved with the JCT, but not always at the same time.

Now ready to work together once more, Director Mary S. Wright, Music Director Patty Vandal, Costume Designer Lee White, Stage Manager Missy Engelhard and Director’s Advisor Mary Ann England are excited to revisit the past and to share the experience with former and new cast and crew members.

Walter Sage will join Vandal as co-director of music and piano accompanist. Tony Gutierrez, technical, set and lighting designer, will challenge himself to create Broadway-type special effects on a stage that he said will be virtually in perpetual motion. Producer Lisa Kerr, a Trinity Theatre Consortium graduate, will help make this show a positive experience for all involved.

JCT, now in existence for almost 20 years, welcomes Jamestown residents from ages 7 through 90-plus to sing and act in its productions. The organization offers opportunities for families to be involved in an activity together and parents are urged to join their children in an exceptional team experience.

There are roles and a chorus for people with or without theatrical or musical experience. Some parts do require more sophisticated acting skills and good singing ability, and “Willy Wonka” will provide opportunities for those who want to take on a larger role.

This version of the show includes humor intended for adults, as well as some great slapstick and magical moments that children will enjoy.

“Willy Wonka” will be cast by the middle of next week, and the first rehearsal will be held on Sunday, Sept. 13, at 3 p.m. There are only a few roles left to be cast, so don’t delay!
