Gail Van Reen, 60, died Aug. 30, 2009, at her home in East Greenwich. She was the wife of Fred Van Reen.

Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late John H. and Margaret G. (Shea) Rider.

Mrs. Van Reen was a nutritionist at Newport County Headstart program for many years before her illness.

Besides her husband, she is survived by four daughters: Elexis Van Reen of Hope Valley; Errin Van Reen of Jamestown; Eliza Van Reen of Boston, Mass. and Eshton Van Reen of Jamestown; and one son, Jacob J. Van Reen of Boston, Mass. She was the sister of Cheryl Vander Most of West Greenwich and Frank Rider of West Greenwich. She is also survived by her son-in-law, Jeff Haitz, of Hope Valley.

Calling hours are this evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home and Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Ave. in West Warwick. Services will be private.
