Give blood at PAC Club this Sunday
      The Rhode Island Blood Center and the Arnold Zweir Post 22 American Legion & Memorial Post 9447 VFW of Jamestownwill hold a blood drive this Sunday, Sept. 13, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Portuguese American Citizens Club at 134 Narragansett Ave. in Jamestown.

Community chorus rehearsals start Monday
      The Jamestown Community Chorus will begin rehearsals for its 60th anniversary concert on Monday, Sept. 14, at 7 p.m. at Central Baptist Church.

Public Works Dept. to auction equipment
      The Jamestown Department of Public Works will host its second town auction in the last three years on Friday, Sept. 18. The event will raise some cash, but will also allow the town to get rid of outdated equipment that is taking up space.

Community Band resumes practice
      The Jamestown Community Band, under the direction of Bethany Clarke, has resumed its practice schedule as it prepares for its fall performances, which includes a performance at Hey Day on Sept. 26, as well as the annual Christmas concert.

      The book discussion groups at the Jamestown library will discuss “My Stroke of Insight” by Jill Bolte Taylor this Monday, Sept. 14, at 7 p.m. and Tuesday, Sept. 15, at 1 p.m.

Register for Cub Scouts tonight
      Cub Scouts Pack One in Jamestown will host its annual cub rally tonight at 6 p.m. at Ft. Getty. All families with boys entering first through fifth grades who are interested in joining Cub Scouts are welcome to attend to learn more about the pack and its activities. Pizza and soda will be provided.

Garden club to celebrate presidents
      Quononoquott Garden Club members will travel to Blue Moon Farm in Wakefield on Sept. 14. The business meeting will begin at 11 a.m. and a luncheon will be held in the garden. Farm owner and founder, Jane Chase, will demonstrate the creation of beautiful fall container gardens and has opened the farm for members to tour.

Teen volunteers needed for Hey Day
      Calling all teens: The Conanicut Island Land Trust will host Hey Day on Saturday, Sept. 26, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Godena Farm, and teen volunteers are needed to help make the day a success. Teens are needed to play and supervise games for younger children. Activities will include pumpkin painting, gunny sack races, three-legged races and more.
