• Christopher R. Bessin, 26, of 54 Second St. in Newport, was charged Sept. 10 with driving without a license/driving with an expired license on North Main Road, according to police. An arraignment was scheduled for Sept. 25 in Newport District Court, police said.

DUI charges

• James Huston, 38, of 102 Main St. in Irvington, N.Y., was charged Sept. 12 with first-offense DUI during a traffic stop on East Shore Road, police said. A re-arraignment was scheduled for Sept. 18 in Newport District Court, according to police.

• Elizabeth Gladding, 21, of 855 Stoney Lane in North Kingstown, was charged Sept. 9 with first-offense DUI during a traffic stop on Route 138 westbound, after an officer allegedly observed her driving erratically and initiated a stop, police said. She was held at the police station and a re-arraignment was scheduled for Sept. 18 in Newport District Court, according to police.
