Library book groups announce upcoming picks
      The book discussion groups at the Jamestown Philomenian Library will discuss “A History of Love” by Nicole Krauss on Monday, Oct. 19, at 7 p.m. and Tuesday, Oct. 20, at 1 p.m. On Nov. 16-17, the groups will discuss “Stoner” by John Edward Williams.

Don’t miss ‘Heyday’ at Godena Farm
      This Saturday, Sept. 26, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Conanicut Island Land Trust will celebrate open space and land conservation with its “Heyday” event at the Godena Farm. Old-time games, wagon rides, fresh food, live local music and a silent auction are among the highlights of the day. Various community groups will also exhibit during the festivities.

Teen Center to host dance on Saturday
      The Teen Center’s Youth Advisory Board will host a “Fall Fiesta!” welcome back dance from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26, at the recreation center. The dance is open to all students in grades 7 to 12. Admission is $5, and all proceeds will benefit Teen Center programs.

Glowball golf tournament to benefit R.I. Vest A Dog
      On Friday, Oct. 23, at the Jamestown Golf Course, Rhode Island Vest A Dog will hold its ninth annual glowball golf tournament to benefit R.I. Vest A Dog, which raises funds to buy bullet/stab proof vests for police and sheriffs’ K-9 units. Sign-in for the event begins at 4:45 p.m., followed by a 5:45 p.m. K-9 demo and a 6:15 p.m. shotgun start.
