     Koral, Tyde and Orabel Piccoli raised $19 selling lemonade recently during a yard sale held by Jamestown residents and families from Ishi Dojo to benefit its center in Providence.

Planning Commission sends new zoning ordinance proposal to Town Council
      The Jamestown Planning Commission voted 6-1 at its Sept. 16 meeting to send a new zoning ordinance proposal to the Town Council for review and public comment. Commissioner Michael Smith abstained in the final vote. After the meeting, Smith said he has not been on the Planning Commission long enough “to know the ins and outs of that ordinance.”

Bus parking, teacher evaluation top School Committee meeting
      Administrators at both the Lawn Avenue and Melrose schools reported a successful start to the school year during the School Committee meeting on Sept. 17, and discussed plans for growth and improvements in technology and curriculum that will take place throughout the academic year.

Jack O’Lantern Jog to be held Oct. 25
      The Jamestown Recreation Department will hold its 21st Jamestown Jack O’ Lantern Jog 5k Road Race on Sunday, Oct. 25, at 1 p.m. The Jog starts downtown and winds its way through the streets of scenic Jamestown to the finish line in front of the recreation center.

Islanders rack up goals in shutout field hockey game
      The Jamestowners on the North Kingstown High School field hockey team came out to play on Sept. 17 against the Moses Brown Quakers in a home game that kept the crowd on the edge of their seats. The first three of four Skippers’ goals in the game were scored and assisted by islanders.

Jamestown pair leads North Kingstown tennis team
      A lot of players who have spent their entire high school tennis careers playing on the underdog team in Division I might not look back on the time fondly. But for islanders and best friends Eloise Heath and Allison Smith, the journey has been a fun one.

Hopes rise for sinking ferry pier
      The Jamestown Harbor Commission last week decided that it is time to pursue a restoration of the deteriorating East Ferry pier. The Sept. 16 decision to request layout sketches of a renovated pier followed a PowerPoint presentation by Town Council member Bill Kelly, who is anxious to turn the eyesore into a gem.
