Police pursuit ends in crash
Grapes & Gourmet owner Frank LaPere points out the damage to his East Ferry storefront that occurred on Oct. 8, when a driverless car slammed into the building following a high –speed pursuit across the island. Police report that an early morning pursuit of a stolen vehicle ended on Conanicus Avenue when the suspect jumped out of the moving vehicle and fled on foot. The car then crashed into the storefront. The suspect, a Providence resident, was apprehended following a brief foot chase, police said. Jamestown and state police were involved in the pursuit and the arrest. LaPere said most of the front wall of the store was moved several inches and will have to be rebuilt. Photo by Jeff McDonough
