Morhardt, 88, of

Jamestown, passed away Oct. 9 at his home. He was the beloved husband of Clare C. (Connor) Morhardt for 66 years.

Born in Hartford, Conn., the son of the late Frank and Ann (Rogers) Morhardt, he raised his family in Bethel, Conn., before moving to Jamestown in 1987.

Mr. Morhardt graduated from Hartford Public High School in 1938 and received a B.S. in civil engineering from Trinity College, Hartford in 1942. He was captain of the Trinity College swim team.

He was a U.S. Marine and served in WWII in the Pacific Theatre in assault demolition and bomb disposal. He was awarded the Purple Heart, various campaign medals and attained the rank of captain.

Mr. Morhardt enjoyed a career in sales management with Toro and John Deere before retiring. Upon his retirement, he worked at the Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport.

He was a member of the Purple Heart Society. He was a communicant of St. Mark Church. He enjoyed boating, gardening, cooking and entertaining his grandchildren.

Besides his wife, he leaves six children, Jeffrey C. Morhardt of Woodstock, Va.; Constance C. Montross of Sturbridge, Mass.; Ann M. deRaismes of Saunderstown, R.I.; Catherine R. Mohr of Midlothian, Va.; Elizabeth M. Elkas of Holden, Mass.; and Michael G. Morhardt of Southborough, Mass; 21 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was the father of the late Jane R. Morhardt; and the brother of the late Ellen Rogan.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Oct. 13 in St. Mark Church. Burial with military honors was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bethel, Conn.
