Green consultant to speak at Shores meeting
      Nancy Escher, an eco-consultant for Green Irene – an East Coast company that advises businesses and residents on how to “go green” and in the process, save energy, water and money – will be the guest speaker at the next meeting of the Jamestown Shores Association on Wednesday, Oct. 28, at 7 p.m. at the Jamestown Senior Center.

Teen Center hosts election day trip
      The Jamestown Teen Center will be closed on Tuesday, Nov. 3, due to elections. Teens will be going to the Providence Place Mall and Dave and Busters on that day at 1 p.m. The group will return at 8 p.m. Sign up by Tuesday, Oct. 27, so that bus reservations can be made. Cost of the trip will be determined by the number of participants.

Flu clinic Tuesday at Baker’s Pharmacy
      Visiting Nurse Services of Newport and Bristol Counties will hold a flu clinic at Baker’s Pharmacy on Tuesday, Oct. 27, from 9 to 11 a.m. for people ages 18 and older. VNS of Newport and Bristol Counties accepts most forms of insurance; bring your insurance card with you. Wear a short-sleeved shirt or loose clothing.

      The Conanicut Island Land Trust will host a different Halloween celebration for families, especially for children ages 5 to 10 years old, on Friday, Oct. 30, from 5:45 to 7:30 p.m. at the Godena Farm on North Road.

      Seamen’s Church Institute will host “Land, Sky & Sea – Australia’s Great Barrier Reef,” by Thomas F. Freeman on Tuesday, Oct. 27, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at 18 Market Square in Newport.

Sidewalk art contest to be held this Saturday
      This Saturday, Oct. 24, from 1 to 4 p.m., the Jamestown Teen Center will sponsor “Chalk Around the Block,” a one-day sidewalk art extravaganza at the recreation center. Artists of all ages can show off their talent on the sidewalk around the recreation center, where each team or individual will create a pastel painting within a four-foot square.

Jack O’Lantern Jog to be held this Sunday
      The Jamestown Recreation Department will hold its 21st Jamestown Jack O’ Lantern Jog 5k Road Race this Sunday, Oct. 25, at 1 p.m. The Jog starts downtown and winds its way through the streets of scenic Jamestown to the finish line in front of the recreation center.

Sign up now for NYC trip for seniors
      The Jamestown Police Association will host a trip to New York City on Thursday, Dec. 17, for Jamestown senior citizens (ages 55 and up) on a first-come, firstserved basis. The trip includes a visit to Radio City Music Hall, free time for shopping and dinner on the way home. Due to higher than expected costs, the fee for attendees will be $55.

      The ladies doubles summer group consisted of 30 members this year. Maureen McGuirl and Laura Theisen were the top finishers in the ongoing summer tournament.

Sailing team to hold fundraising dinner
      The North Kingstown High School sailing team recently qualifi ed for the Great Oaks Regatta, a national event in New Orleans, La. in November. To help raise funds for this event, the team will hold a “Taste of New Orleans” dinner this Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Wickford Yacht Club. Two seating times, 5:30 p.m. or 7:30 p.m., will be available.

Rocky Hill School to hold open house
      On Saturday, Oct. 24, from 10 a.m. to noon, Rocky Hill School in East Greenwich will host an admission open house for prospective families interested in preschool through grade 12 admission. Take a student-guided tour of the 88-acre campus, and see the new 50-foot catamaran and floating classroom that faculty and students use to explore the marine environment.
