Be prepared for emergencies
I have recently, with the help of my fellow scouts of Troop 1 Jamestown, assembled some kits for members of our community as part of my Eagle Scout project. These kits include many items recommended by FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Association) to be in everyone’s homes in the event of an emergency. They include such items as water, ready prepared foods, first aid supplies and sanitary items.
It is important that we all visit the R.I. EMA website (www.riema.ri.gov) and prepare our homes in the event

Also on the R.I. EMA website is a map of all evacuation routes for our island. Everyone should be knowledgeable of these routes.
It has been a real learning experience for all of us who worked on this project and I would like to thank Chief Tighe, Jamestown Emergency Management Director; Mr. Fred Pease, Deputy Emergency Management Director and Lieutenant William Donovan, Emergency Management Assistant for their guidance. I also would like to thank the Jamestown Rotary Club for their generous donation in helping me to meet my goal, and deliver 15 kits to families in our community.
Special thanks also to Cathryn Jamieson Salon, the Secret Garden, BJ’s of Middletown, and EMS of Middletown for their financial support.
