POLICE LOG

DUI charges

• Victoria Hunter, 46, of 11 Dixon St. in Newport, was charged Oct. 11 with first-offense DUI after she allegedly ran a stop sign on North Main Road and refused field sobriety tests, according to police. She was held at the police station and a re-arraignment was scheduled for Oct. 16 in Newport District Court, police said.

• Darnell Taylor, 36, of 149 Adelaide Ave. in Providence, was charged Oct. 18 with second-offense DUI after a caller followed the allegedly erratic driver from Providence and alerted the Jamestown police, who arrested the driver on Route 138, according to police. He was held at the police station and a re-arraignment was scheduled for Oct. 23 in Newport District Court, police said.

Underage drinking

• Michael Pasquale, 18, of 613 Stony Fort Rd. in Saunderstown, was charged Oct. 5 with possession of beverage by an underage person during a traffic stop on Conanicus Avenue, police said. An arraignment was scheduled for Oct. 16 in Newport District Court, according to police.

Eluding police

• Chay L. Mariano, 19, of 425 Cranston St. in Providence, was charged Oct. 8 with eluding police in high-speed pursuit, police said. According to police, officers pursued the suspect, who was allegedly operating a stolen vehicle and driving 94 mph in a 40-mph zone while eluding police. The suspect allegedly jumped out of the moving vehicle and fled on foot, while the unoccupied vehicle crashed into a building at East Ferry Wharf, police said. The suspect was apprehended after a brief foot pursuit and was arrested on Narragansett Avenue, according to police. R.I. State Police charged the suspect with possession of a stolen vehicle (reported by South Kingstown police) and Jamestown police charged the suspect with eluding police, police said. He was held at the R.I. State Police barracks in Wickford and a bail review was scheduled for Oct. 13 in Newport District Court, according to police.

Driving with a

suspended license

• Jeffrey M. McCallum, 22, of 6332 Flat River Rd. in Coventry, was charged Oct. 17 with operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license (second offense) during a stop on Route 138 West on the North Kingstown side, according to police. An arraignment was scheduled for Oct. 23 in Newport District Court, police said.

Domestic vandalism

• Sterling Smith, 36, of 921 East Shore Rd. was charged Oct. 18 with domestic-vandalism/malicious injury to property on Penny Road after a caller reported loud fighting and the sound of glass breaking, police said. He was held at the police station and an arraignment was scheduled for Oct. 19 in Newport District Court, according to police.
