Mary Evans Thacker, 95
Mary Evans Thacker (Perry), 95, of Jamestown passed away Oct. 13 at Forest Farm Health Care in Middletown.
She was the wife of Edward H. Thacker and the late Edwin A. Evans.
A lifelong resident of Jamestown, she was the daughter of the late Antone A. and Mary (Dutra) Perry.
Mrs. Thacker was the former owner of Lang’s Dry Goods in Jamestown. She was a very active communicant of St. Mark Church and was involved in many organizations in the Jamestown community. She was the first Democrat ever elected in Jamestown.
Mrs. Thacker was one of the founders of the Jamestown Recreation Board. She was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan, and enjoyed playing golf.
She leaves a son, Edwin (Ned) Evans and his wife, Judith, of Charlestown; a daughter, Mary Jayne Lindgren and her husband, Ron, of Jamestown; two stepsons, David Thacker of Virginia and Bruce Thacker of Texas; a step-daughter, Margaret Chapman of Washington; a brother, Anthony J. Perry of Michigan; five grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; five greatgrandchildren and 19 step-greatgrandchildren. She was the sister of the late Joseph Perry.
