Jamestown Classic Bike Race to air
      The Jamestown Classic Bike Race will air on Cox Sports Channel 3 on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26, at 12:30 p.m., following a live high school football game, and again at 9:30 p.m. The show, produced by Kettlebottom Productions of Jamestown in cooperation with the Jamestown Rotary Club, features Jamestown riders and beautiful island scenery.

      Lawn Avenue School eighthgraders are taking orders for home-baked pies to raise money to fund their June trip to Washington, D.C. All orders must be placed by tomorrow, Friday, Nov. 20. Choose from pumpkin, pecan, apple crumb and traditional apple – as well as unbaked apple, if you’d like to bake it yourself.

Teen Center to sponsor two trips for teens
      Tomorrow, Friday, Nov. 20, the Teen Center will close at 6 p.m. so that teens can go to United Skates of America in Rumford. Cost for the trip, which does not include skate rentals, rock climbing, laser tag and other activities, is $10. Visit www.unitedskatesri.com for more information.

Students to hold walk for leukemia Saturday
      The Lawn Avenue School Student Council will host a “walk for leukemia” this Saturday, Nov. 21, at 10 a.m. The walk begins and ends at the Melrose School playground. All donations will benefit the Leukemia Fund. All are welcome to join in the walk, including kids, adults and pets. Call 423-7010 for more information.

Final performances of ‘Willy Wonka’
      The Jamestown Community Theatre will perform one more weekend of “Willy Wonka,” the beloved story of a fantastic chocolate factory tour gone awry. Final performances are Friday and Saturday, Nov. 20 and 21, and Sunday, Nov. 22. Friday and Saturday shows are at 7:30, Sunday’s performance is at 4 p.m. All shows are held at the Jamestown recreation center.

      The R.I. Turnpike and Bridge Authority will redeem Newport Pell Bridge tokens until Dec. 31. RITBA replaced the token tollpayment system with EZPass in January, 2009.

Recreation dept. to sponsor volleyball programs for kids and adults
      The Jamestown Recreation Department will sponsor two recreational volleyball programs beginning this month. A youth recreational volleyball league, which began Tuesday, Nov. 17, will run from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Lawn Avenue School gym. The program will run every Tuesday through March 10.

Capaldi earns board certification renewal
      Philip Capaldi, a Jamestown School teacher, recently achieved renewal of his National Board certification. National Board certification is a voluntary assessment program designed to develop, recognize and retain accomplished teachers. Certification is achieved through a performance-based assessment that typically takes one to three years to complete.

Page named ‘rookie receptionist’ of the year
      Cheryl Page of Jamestown received the “Rookie Receptionist of the Year” award during a recent annual Weight Watchers meeting. Page, co-owner of Island Rubbish, has been employed as a part-time receptionist for Weight Watchers since 2007. She works throughout Rhode Island, primarily out of the North Kingstown center.
