Just say ‘No’ to LNG ships
Kudos to the Town Council for tasking our town administrator on Monday with the job of drafting a resolution stating our community’s opposition to the planned LNG terminal in Mt. Hope Bay.
Most Jamestowners are aware of a proposal by Hess to build a terminal for off-loading huge LNG ships. If successful, some 140 LNG tankers would cruise past Conanicut Island each year. Each time one of these massive LNG ships heads up the bay with a full load, the Coast Guard would halt all boat activity on the water. Sailboats racing in regattas would have to stop. Fishing boats would have to leave the area. Even the Newport Pell Bridge would have to close until the ship has passed through.
There’s no question that the LNG terminal will have a major impact on our lives. Now is the time to register your opinion on the matter. Don’t wait until it’s too late!

A great concert by the island band
The Jamestown Community Band has never sounded better than it did this week. The talented musicians put on a spectacular holiday concert Tuesday evening under the direction of Bethany Clarke.
The band was established in 1993 and annually marches in the Jamestown Memorial Day Parade. The band welcomes everyone to its ranks and practices every Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the PAC Club.
It is evident that the band members have fun with music. If you can play an instrument, you should consider joining the band.
