Ruggiero honored by Hive Archive
Rep. Deborah Ruggiero has been honored with a Hive Archive Distinguished Women in the Arts award.
The Hive Archive, founded in 2001, is a non-profit, women-run arts organization with a mission to promote gender equality by dismantling obstacles that limit women and girls in reaching their full creative potential.
Ruggiero, the host of “Amazing Women” on 630 WPRO AM and 99.7 FM, was selected for her advocacy of women’s issues and her efforts to empower women though various channels: Her radio program, her commitment to the Women’s Fund of Rhode Island and her civic commitment as a legislator.
“We are honored to recognize Deb as an inspiring leader and a role model to women and artists pursuing a career in media,” said Alyssa Holland Short, executive director of the Hive Archive. “As a political figure, she is encouraging women to make change through their vote and to be visible, heard, and politically informed and engaged, reminding women – particularly young women who have been missing from the voting booths – that we can make change not only through our community involvement but also through our electoral politics.”
The award was presented during Lunafest, a fundraising film festival and awards ceremony dedicated to promoting awareness of women’s issues.
