Nativity pageant happens tonight
The town’s annual Christmas pageant is 5 p.m. tonight, Thursday, Dec. 24, on the Shoreby Hill green.
The event is an island tradition that grew out of a pageant performed in Bronxville, N.Y., the hometown of former pageant director Jeanne Bunkley. It features local residents costumed as Mary, Joseph, shepherds and angels, and includes special lighting, guitar playing, the reading of blessings and prayers, and the singing of several Christmas carols.
