COVE seeks submissions for juried art exhibit
Newport Communities Overcoming ViolencE and the Women’s Resource Center of Newport and Bristol Counties are asking local artists to submit work for the first “Create Change” juried exhibition, a community wide art show supporting domestic violence prevention.
The exhibit, which opens Feb. 22 and runs through March, is an opportunity for artists to be actively involved in ending domestic violence in Newport.
The organization is soliciting artwork that reflects local artists’ interpretation of Newport being proclaimed a “violence-free zone.” Artwork will be displayed both at Reel Gallery at 94 Williams St. and in other public spaces.
The exhibition will be juried by a panel of judges from the domestic violence and arts communities. The piece judged to be the most powerful reflection of the proclamation’s message will be reproduced and sold locally; proceeds from these sales will support the ongoing domestic violence prevention efforts of Newport COVE.
