Britannia talk to be held at library

The Friends of the Jamestown Library will host “Britannia in Brief: A 101 on Modern British Culture,” a talk by Leslie Banker and William Mullins, on Monday, Jan. 25, at 7 p.m. in the library’s meeting hall.

The program is free and open to the public.

Islanders Leslie Banker and William Mullins will discuss similarities and differences in contemporary U.S. and U.K. cultures. The talk will touch on British history, society, culture and everyday life from Whigs and Windsors to wankers and Wales, including topics such as British newspapers, class system, politics, travel and language.

They are the authors of “Britannia in Brief: The Scoop on All Things British” (Random House, 2009), which will be available at the talk for $15 each, proceeds to benefit the Friends of the Jamestown Library.
