Library to present shipping program

On Wednesday, Feb. 10, at 7 p.m., the Friends of the Jamestown Library will present “Narragansett Bay Shipping: A View From the Shore with Rod Smith,” a talk and presentation of photographs.

For the last two years, Smith has documented the many ships that come up and down the bay with stunning photographs, which he then publishes at www.narragansettbayshipping. com. The site documents, in words and photos, the cruise liners, freighters, cargo ships, tugs and other ships that island residents can often see as they walk out at Beavertail or along Conanicus Avenue.

Daily arrival and departure times for ships on Narragansett Bay can also be viewed.

Rod Smith grew up on Hulls Cove in Jamestown, and has dedicated his website to his parents, Pat and Ned Smith. After a career in the IT field in Maryland, he moved back to Jamestown in 2006. His website grew out of his passion for the ships and the sea.

The program is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
