      Thursday, Feb. 4 7 p.m., Lawn School Library, the School Committee meets for a budget workshop. Wednesday, Feb. 10 7 p.m., Town Hall, the Harbor Commission meets. Tuesday, Feb. 16 7 p.m., Town Hall, the Town Council meets.

FIRE & EMS
      Fire runs 7:30 p.m., Jan. 28, all units turned out at the fire station on Narragansett Avenue for a drill. 2:57 p.m., Jan. 29, Cars 1, 2 and 4, and Engine 2, were sent to Maple Avenue for a brush fire. 10:33 a.m., Jan. 31, Rescue 1 tended to a walk-in injury resulting from a vehicle accident.

POLICE LOG
      Driving under the influence • Saul Kaplan, 53, of 741 Elmgrove Ave. in Providence, was charged Jan. 30 with first-offense DUI after a traffic stop for speeding on Rt. 138 West, according to police. He was held at the police station and a re-arraignment was scheduled for Feb. 5 in Newport District Court, police said.

DEM taking applications for summer jobs
      The Dept. of Environmental Management is now taking applications for its 2010 seasonal employment program. Various positions for the summer season are available throughout Rhode Island for residents 16 years of age and older. Work on weekends and on holidays is required of most summer positions.
