Free yoga class for teen girls

Annette Burke of Jamestown will teach a yoga program for young girls through Ophelia Fitness, a component of Child & Family’s Ophelia programs. The program will introduce young Newport County women to fitness and overall wellness by offering classes designed exclusively for them.

The classes address exercise, nutrition and stress reduction, and are offered free of charge to young women ages 13 to 21 in the Newport County community.

“Many people think that yoga is just stretching, but yoga is really about creating balance in the body and mind by developing both strength and flexibility,” said Sharon Rust-Bottone, coordinator of the Ophelia program. “In addition, we will also be offering guidance on nutrition and overall wellness.”

The program will offer six weeks of yoga classes on Thursday afternoons from 3:45 to 5 p.m. beginning today, Feb. 25, at the new Child and Family Community Center at 31 John Clark Rd. in Middletown.
