Doris May Torriese, 85

Doris May Torriese, 85, of Jamestown passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 14, 2010, at the Grand Islander Health Care Center in Middletown from a stroke suffered in December, 2009.

She was the wife of the late John Torriese.

She was born in Williamstown, Mass. to the late Irving A. and Katherine A. (Gardiner) Tourtellotte.

She was raised in Dudley and Webster, Mass., and attended Bartlett High School. Doris worked at B&W Footwear in Webster, and for many years as a molder and QC inspector at Danco in Putnam, Conn.

Doris will always be remembered as a loving and devoted mother and grandmother who always placed the needs of family before her own. Up until a few years ago, she enjoyed clamming, fishing, walking the beach at Mackerel Cove and more recently, she enjoyed politics, crossword puzzles and her beloved dog, Bessie.

She is survived by three children: Her son, Timothy Hryzan and his companion, Karen Golembeski, of Warwick, R.I.; daughters, Kathleen Blair and her husband, Robert, of Hampden, Mass., and Judith Gardner of Bristol; three grandchildren, Kimberly Acciardo, Russell Hryzan, Stephanie Hryzan, and two great-grandchildren, James and Kaitlyn Acciardo. She was the sister of the late William, Howard and Edward Tourtellotte and a fourth brother, Cpl. Irving A. Tourtellotte, was MIA in Korea in November, 1950.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Memorial Funeral Home at 375 Broadway in Newport, R.I. A private scattering of ashes will be held at the convenience of the family.
