Amerigian named to dean’s list at New Haven

Oliver Amerigian of Jamestown has been named to the dean’s list at the University of New Haven for the fall 2009 semester.

Chadwick wins ASJA Outstanding Book Award

Jamestown Press Editor Dara Chadwick has won the 2010 Outstanding Book Award in the service/self-help category from the American Society of Journalists and Authors for her book, “You’d Be So Pretty If…: Teaching Our Daughters to Love Their Bodies – Even When We Don’t Love Our Own.”

The ASJA writing awards honor outstanding nonfiction work produced on a freelance basis during the prior calendar year.

The award will be presented during the annual ASJA conference in New York City.

Davis named to Villanova dean’s list

Kendra Davis of Jamestown has been named to the dean’s list for the fall 2009 semester at Villanova University in Villanova, Penn.

Livingston named to Clark University dean’s list

Phoebe H. Livingston of Jamestown has been named to first honors on the dean’s list for the fall 2009 semester at Clark University in Worcester, Mass. She is a graduate of North Kingstown High School.

Lussier wins first place in writing competition

Jamestown resident Rita Lussier, a freelance columnist for the Providence Journal newspaper, won first place in the Erma Bombeck Writing Competition sponsored by the Washington-Centerville Public Library in Centerville, Ohio.

Lussier’s essay, “A Sign of the Times,” won in the global human interest category.

Writers from around the world entered the competition, which pays tribute to Erma Bombeck, one of America’s greatest humorists, and coincides with the University of Dayton’s Erma Bombeck Writers’ Workshop planned for April 15-17.

Island students named to Phillips honor roll

The following Jamestown students have been named to the honor roll at Phillips Academy in Andover, Mass., for the winter term: Austen C. Novis, Hailey Novis and Amanda C. Thran.
