SELAC to host social skills workshop
On Tuesday, May 11, the Jamestown Special Education Local Advisory Committee will present “Social Skills At Home and At School: A Workshop for Parents” at 6:30 p.m. in the Melrose School music room.
Jamestown’s school psychologist, Dr. Lisa Wholey, and Jamestown’s speech/language pathologist, Christine Antidormi, will present a program drawing on the work of Michelle Garcia Winner – “Social Thinking” – and the book “Promoting Social Success” by Gary Siperstein and Emily Paige Richards.
All children and adults use social skills; however, children with autism spectrum disorders, ADHD, developmental delays, speech/language disabilities, sensory issues and other disorders and conditions often do not develop a natural social skills set.
Wholey and Antidormi will lead a parents’ workshop that will include a presentation followed by a question-and-answer session and will focus on promoting social thinking and social success for children at school and at home.
RSVP if you plan to attend. Contact Laura Totten at 487-2453 for more information; to register, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
