Ruggiero delivers keynote at conference
Rep. Deborah Ruggiero delivered the keynote address at the recent Celebrating Public Service Conference, an event organized by the R.I. Chapter of the American Society Public Administrators.
The event was attended by Pawtucket students who are interested in public service careers, as well as students in the master’s of public administration program at Roger Williams University.
Ruggiero told the students that they should not hold back if they are interested in helping their community, whether through government or in fields like education or advocacy.
“Politics is about policy and policy is about making a difference. But you can’t make a difference if you’re not a voice at the table,” she said. “So run for office, get involved in a campaign, work at a nonprofit or volunteer at a soup kitchen. Be engaged as a citizen, as a human being. Find a passion – whether it’s art, government, education, whatever speaks to you.”
Ruggiero also recently presented a $1,000 legislative grant to the Jamestown Education Foundation to help support its after-school enrichment programs.
