Innerlight Yoga opens new yoga space

Innerlight Yoga has opened a new space called the Willow Room in its studio at 850 Aquidneck Ave. in Middletown.

New classes will fill the Willow Room, including strength training and yoga with Jen Meyer, chair yoga with Barbara Van Sciver, and yoga for golfers and recreational athletes with Aggie Perkins. Yoga for the rest of us, with Janne Sahady, is a one-hour class that is ideal for adult beginners and those with mild physical limitations.

Also offered is yoga for women with breast cancer, presented by Alicia Barry. Barry is a certified in yoga for cancer survivors and is a survivor herself.

A donation-only vinyasa flow class will be led by Courtnay Meletta at 4 p.m. on Friday, June 4. All funds raised will benefit the Global Seva Challenge 2010, which supports humanitarian efforts in South Africa.

Besides managing more than 50 classes every week at the studio in Middletown, islander Kim Chandler, who owns Innerlight, has also created a regular schedule of classes at the Jamestown Golf Course through the Jamestown Recreation Dept.

Mondays feature an open class taught by Denise Rounds at 8:30 a.m. and a gentle class by Diana McCallister at 10:30 a.m.

On Tuesdays, McCallister teachers an open class at 5:30 p.m. In July and August, Robin Lee will teach a special outdoor class at Beavertail at 6:15 a.m. On Fridays, McCallister teaches a vinyasa flow class at 8:30 a.m. and a gentle class at 10 a.m.

The golf course building is located at 245 Conanicus Ave.

Innerlight will celebrate its 15th anniversary later this year. Drop-ins are always welcome for a fee of $16 per class. Multi-class cards are available at discounted rates.

New students can obtain a free pass for their first class by emailing kim@innerlightyoga.com.
