Amy “Nicky” Vigars, 92

Amy A. “Nicky” Vigars, 92, of Starboard Avenue, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at home.

Born in Albany, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Sidney F. and Edith S. (Lewis) Vigars.

She was a U.S. Women’s Army Corps Veteran serving in WWII.

She worked for the federal government in procurement until retiring in July of 1974.

Nicky was the quartermaster and past commander of the VFW, former treasurer of the DAV, a charter member of the Women’s Memorial in Washington, D.C. and a charter member of the American Air Museum of England. She was also a member of the Jamestown Shores Association, Friends of Jamestown Seniors, Jamestown Business and Professional Women, Jamestown Ladies Golf League and three genealogy societies. She was also a Save the Bay supporter.

An active communicant of St. Mark Church, Nicky served on the finance committee and as a Eucharistic minister. She was also a member of the women’s club.

She leaves a niece, Linda Vigars- Amyot, and her husband, Thomas Amyot; a nephew, Lewis “Fred” Vigars Jr., and his wife, Beverly G. Vigars. She was the great aunt of Michael Vigars and his wife, Alex; Jessica, Ashley and Philip Vigars. She was a dear friend of the Sullivan family.

She was the sister of the late Lewis A. Vigars Sr. and his wife, Mary Vigars; and the dear friend of Ellen Conway and Mary McCann.

Her funeral was held May 24, with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mark Church. Burial with military honors was in St. Mark Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to St. Mark Church will be appreciated. For online condolences, visit www.FaganQuin nFuneralHome.com.
