9th annual Ali’s Run this Sunday
Sunday, June 6, marks the ninth running of the Ali Dunn Packer Memorial Road Race, also known as Ali’s Run.
Ali Dunn Packer’s life was taken tragically at age 15 in an automobile accident. Ali attended Jamestown public schools and La- Salle Academy.
Ali’s Run is held annually on the first Sunday in June and the event starts off with a half-mile Kid’s Run at noon.
The Ali Dunn Packer Memorial Fund was established to celebrate the life and memory of Ali. The fund promotes teen awareness of the responsibilities that accompany growing up in today’s society. The funds raised benefit youths wishing to pursue their interests in education, athletics and fine arts. With the support from sponsors and race participants, Ali’s Fund has awarded more than $70,000 to Rhode Island teens.
The 5K USATF-certified 5K race/walk scheduled for 1 p.m. on Sunday will start and finish at Ft. Getty Park. There will be a complimentary lunch, and music, food, prizes and activities for the entire family. Race registration opens at 10 a.m. and the race will be held rain or shine.
