We must be doing something right
For probably only the second time in my 31 years of living in Jamestown, I will miss the Financial Town Meeting this Monday. As someone who has been actively involved in town government for more than 25 years as a member of the Conservation Commission and other committees, I feel I need to lend my voice of support to our town administrator, finance officer, School Committee and the Town Council for the council-recommended 2010-11 budget.
During the past five-plus years, we have built a new water treatment plant, a new public works facility, a new water tower, a new Town Hall and expanded the police station. In addition, we have committed more than $3 million for the preservation of two of our large farms.
We have done all this and are still one of the few municipalities – maybe the only one – in the state not operating in the red.
We must be doing something right.
Let’s not second-guess those who have spent many hours and days agonizing over our town budget. Sure, there may be things we could live without, but let’s not “throw the baby out with the bath water.”
Attend the Financial Town meeting on Monday and voice your support for a government that is doing it right!
