Ali’s Run draws hundreds of runners and walkers

Photo by Andrea von Hohenleiten More than 400 runners and walkers took part in the ninth annual Ali Dunn Packer Memorial Road Race last Sunday, June 6, under sunny skies and whipping winds at Ft. Getty.

Keven O’Neil of North Kingstown – who holds the course record – was once again the winner with a time of 16 minutes, 47 seconds.

He was followed by Zachary Kudlak of West Kingston at 17 minutes, 10 seconds, and Derek Jakoboski of North Kingstown at 17 minutes, 45 seconds.

Austen Novis was the top finisher among island residents, in seventh place with a time of 18 minutes and 12 seconds.

Ali’s Run is a 5K run/walk held each year on the first Sunday in June. The event also features a Kids’ Fun Run.

Ali Dunn Packer grew up in Jamestown and had a passion for sports. She was killed in a car accident on June 3, 2001, at the age of 15.

Proceeds from the race benefit the Ali Dunn Packer Memorial Fund, which provides funding for a wide range of programs and activities in Jamestown and elsewhere.
