An intrepid crew

Several Boy Scouts from Troop 1 Jamestown recently completed a 10-mile hike in New Hampshire’s White Mountains. Led by Scout Master Jim Archibald, they forded the Swift River just off the Kancamagus Highway and climbed steadily along the Sawyer Pond Trail for roughly five miles to Sawyer Pond. They carried all their provisions and camped for the night on the edge of Sawyer Pond. All the scouts, even those who were on their first overnight hike, performed admirably, carrying full packs the length of the hike. At the end of the hike, there was a much-anticipated plunge in the brisk waters of the Swift River. From left are Ryan Geib, Kenny Baertlein, Ian Archibald, Truman Christie, Robert Cassidy, Elliot Italiano and John Keavy. Not pictured are adult leaders Jim Archibald, Bill Geib and Jack Christie.
