Book signing at library July 27
The Jamestown Historical Society will sponsor a presentation about the newly released history of Jamestown, “Jamestown: A History of Narragansett Bay’s Island Town,” on Tuesday, July 27, at 7 p.m. in the meeting room at the Jamestown Philomenian Library.
Sue Maden and Rosemary Enright, co-authors with the Jamestown Historical Society, will discuss their research and collaboration, and will be available after the talk to answer questions and autograph copies.
Members of the JHS – especially members of its collections committee – served as a board of review during the development of the history, reading and fact-checking the multiple drafts. They also supported the research, creating a timeline of Jamestown history that will contribute to other society efforts.
Most of the 80 pictures in the volume are from the JHS collection. The 192-page book, published by the History Press, is the first complete history of the town since Walter L. Watson’s History of Jamestown on Conanicut Island in the State of Rhode Island in 1949.
The book will be sold at the Jamestown Museum, and at stores in the village and around the area for $21.99. Members of the Jamestown Historical Society who purchase copies through the JHS receive a 10% discount.
